When a person has heart disease and sleeps a lot, but has one aware good day, is this normal?

Mom has severe heart disease and dementia. Nothing doctors can do. She slept for two days straight and wouldn't eat. They took her off IV and hospice is overseeing her and keeping her comfortable. Today she rebounded. Was awake, talking and drinking. Is this normal? Now I'm second guessing all my decisions.
