MIL with alzheimers is extremely stubborn.

Refuses to get out of bed sometimes until 2 pm or later. I try not to plead etc but I've tried all kinds of things but as her condition deteriorates, she is stubborn as a brick wall. At bedtime, it's the same struggle. Also, fights me over pretty much all daily care. This has been coming on slowly but now her view of me is becoming negative. Sometimes she'll go back to nice..........but it doesn't last very long. :(

Just went back to your profile: Maria, are you still trying to fit all this around your home-office work? Phew! I like PS's "bait" ideas, nice, maybe you'll know what sort of thing will catch your mil's attention. But if her downhill slope has just steepened, and you've still got your fil's care on your hands, and you're beginning to think in terms of support for your own mother… Isn't this all getting a bit much for one person? I'd be calling for reinforcements. xxx

No advice here - just sympathy.

Give up the battle of wits, the patient will stubbornly maintain control by refusing to do what they are ordered to do. They want choices and they want control. She is pushing your buttons like a four-year-old. She may respond to suggestions, she make come out if you can spark her curiosity, she might get up if Big Band is playing in the kitchen. Get the Michael Buble Christmas album and sing along.
