ANGELRANCH Asked June 2013

My 92 year old dad revoked my Durable POA. I 'm still his medical POA. He removed me as signer on his bank accounts. What can I do?

MY FATHER WAS IN A NURSING HOME DEC. 2012 TO FEB. 2013 FOR BACK PAIN. I GOT HIM PAIN MANAGEMENT TREATMENT AND HE IS NOW HOME.HE HAS FRIENDS IN HIS RETIREMENT CO-OP THAT DRIVE HIM TO THE DOCTOR, STORE, BANK, ETC. HE DOES NOT DRIVE. HE HAD ME WRITE CHECKS AND PAY ALL HIS BILLS WHILE HE WAS IN THE NURSING HOME. NOW THAT HE IS HOME HE IS ACCUSING ME OF PAYING MY BILLS WITH HIS MONEY AND STEALING MONEY FROM HIM EVEN THOUGH I HAD GONE OVER HIS BILLS AND CHECKBOOK WITH HIM BEFORE I RETURNED HOME. HE HAS ALL THE RECEIPTS FOR DOCTOR AND HOSPITAL EXPENSE I PAID. MY DAD IS STILL TAKING PAIN MEDS. SELF MEDICATING WITH HYDROCORDON. I UNDERSTAND THAT CAN IMPAIR HIS JUDGEMENT.

Hi Angelranch,
I really don't know how I can help you but did not want you to think your quests was being ignored. Sometimes the legal ones and financial ones are just hard to answer.

I think the question is is your dad competent mentally? If so there is not much you can do. But if you think he is not mentally capable you would need to get him declared thus so if you think he needs the assistance -and at 92 I would imagine he might.

Try and reason with him if that is possible , of course first. Good luck. Wish I could help more!
