A friend's Dad is in hospice near end of life - how do I offer support?

Aside from phone calls and emails, how can I offer support to a friend who's dad is in hospice near end of life? I do not know his father well and wonder if it is appropriate to visit him and his dad at the home? Do I bring a meal to him and his wife? Looking for ideas...

In addition to what Jeanne recommended - maybe bring coffee and muffins, coussiants (sp) - or tea - always comforting - and even just drop it off. People randomly stopped by my mother's room during hospice with tokens of comfort and I truly appreciated it.

Phone calls and emails are great. Beyond that, ask your friend, offering something specific. "I know you are very busy and distracted these days. Could I bring over a meal for you tomorrow?" "I'd like to come visit you and hug you in person, but only if that would work out for you." Etc. Even if the circumstances are such that he turns you down, it will mean a lot to him that you offered.
