The nursing home wants to send mom home, but we don't have 24 hour help. What should we do?

My elderly mother has end stage renal disease, COPD, congestive heart failure, diabetes, a pacemaker, defibrillator for AFib, degenerative disc disease, arthritis, and has broke both hips, a wrist, sternum, and now her pelvic bone. She has been in a nursing home for therapy 6 times in the last 3 years and had pneumonia 7 txs this year. They are wanting to send her home & we don 't have 24 hr help.

Well said Nancy.

I also agree. Hospice is a wonderful organization that provides the care for your mom and what is needed for you.

I agree with the answers given as I would do the same. Call your nearest Hospice Organization to get an evaluation. They are there for you and your mother. Hugs to you.

If she needs 24/7 care, is it time for placement in a care center? And asking for a hospice evaluation sounds like a good plan to me!

Sounds like your mother should be on Hospice to me. Why not call them in? Maybe they can circumvent some of these problems for you, by calling the right people and greasing the wheels so to speak.
