Why am I so awake at night but brain foggy in the daytime even when I sleep at night?

perseverance64 Mar 2015
I have been like this all my life and am now 50. I pretty much deal with it because I have had tests done, bloodwork, MRI and even the sleep study thru the years. I thought it would be connected to blood flow in the brain because it seems like the "fog" gets lifted after I get my heart rate up due to excersize or being very active and focused in a project. But even that has been having smaller effect the last few years. I don't know if it's due to being focused to block out all the "other stuff" that makes that happen or what. It makes it difficult to even have regular conversations some times and makes me more isolated. I'd like to know what you come up with and wish you luck.

Go to sleep specialists, as advised. In the meantime, how do you know you don't snore? Most people who snore, think they don't. Whether or not you make noise, your dentist can tell you if you grind your teeth, which is related to how you breathe at night. That's information that's cheap to come by, and gives you leads about what to do. Sleep specialists know to start with stuff like that.

no new questions to ask at the moment.

I have been struggling with daytime sleepiness and inability to sleep at night. I have seen my PCP, a Psychiatriat, and a mental health counselor. Finally, after about a year and a half of fooling around like this, I went to a sleep center. Duh.

I suggest you save yourself some time and be smarter than I was: you have sleep-related problems. See sleep-related specialists.

I have been like this since I was a kid. As an adult after age 40 I fall asleep easily but wake up often. No snoring.

When did this start? When you sleep do you wake up frequently? do you snore?
