Can you pay a nursing home facility ahead to quality for Medicaid?

My Dad is currently in rehab in a NH. They want me to pay ahead for the month of February in order for him to qualify for Medicaid. They told me the check would go to their corporate office and be refunded to me in my name.(once he is on Medicaid!!!) This sounds a little wack to me ,...anyone have any advice or experienced this before??? HELP ME PLEASE!! I am so lost on all of this crap!

the only thing I can figure is Medicaid will pay for February once he is approved since there is no reason why he would not be...and they will give me back the money I paid in advance in my name so it does not go back in his account..I am so confused. It sounds like some type of fraud to me...but why on earth would a finanacial mgr of a nice big new nursing home jeopardize her job like that?

It does sound strange, but I don't think I understand the whole picture. Is the money for February your Dad's money, or your own? If it is yours, it sounds like they are confident he will qualify for Medicaid and it will be retroactive to February. They are asking for a loan from you to cover their charges until the Medicaid money comes through, and then they'll repay you. At least that is one possible interpretation of the situation you describe. Since your money does not count as assets for your Dad this isn't a way to hide anything and make him appear elligible if he is not. It is just a way for them to get their money faster. Who pays his February expenses would not have a bearing on whether he qualifies for Medicaid, as far as I can tell.

If it is your father's money you would be paying with, then I am a little less clear why you would get it as a refund.

If you don't pay for February, and it takes a month or more for the Medicaid to come through, then the NH has to provide their services without payment on the hope and expectation that it will come through retroactively. Naturally, they'd rather have the money from you now, even if they will refund it later, than to wait for the government to go through their paperwork and pay them later.

What if you tell them you cannot make the payment out of your funds? Will they evict your dad, or keep him as Medicaid Pending and take their first payment(s) late from the government?
