Is adult day care a good thing for my mom?

Mom has been with me for 2 plus years now and recently my brother and I enrolled her in active day with her approval of course, since she has lost interest in everything we thought it would be good to get out and interact with others and get involved in some kind of activities. She never complains about anything and goes willingly but is still finding little to interest her. We have to work and are at peace when she is there but I'm left wondering if there is something else we should try with her?
Or is this just they way it is now?

I know that the Adult Day Cares in my area even offer assistance with medications, therapies, and bathing while there. My Mom fell, broke hip, before she could start, but it seemed a great thing for both the elderly person and the caregiver.

Good Luck!

Check out all the adult day care's in your area our senior center has a very good one and there are private ones in most places so you could check out others to see what is offered and the ideas above are very good she may be able to teach others skills that she has like knitting or painting-let us know how it goes because we all learn from each other on the site.

Adult day care is the best thing for your mom she can socialize with other people and I totaly agree with others ask to have her in charge with some activities.

Much mahalo and God bless!!

Also... see what activities ARE on the schedule for the center and make note of those that COULD be of interest to your Mom. Then (just in conversation) talk to Mom about bringing ,..... to the center on ....Wed/whenever...

Also talk to the staff about maybe putting 'her' in charge of an activity, even if it is sharing recipes! That way she will feel more a part of the activity and may begin to participate in more things around the center. At most centers the staff will include the participants in as much as possible so they are not just an 'audience' but part of the activity!

God Bless!

"Senior Day Care" is a great thing! It keeps them 'out there' and social and also more aware of their personal hygiene, and actually she may be concerned about making mistakes, etc when there.

Why not have her 'bring' something she can 'do' and show others? Even if it is just a photo album, it will may get her involved with others, which is good!
