Article: "The Diagnosis Is Alzheimer’s. But That’s Probably Not the Only Problem."

I was blocked from reading the article but I've always believed that dementia in the very old is much more dependent on the comorbidities that have caused minute brain changes over the decades than on Alzheimer's plaques and tangles.

I'm a broken record on this I have to admit, but Dr. Dale Bredesen is all over this. In his book "The End of Alzheimer's" he identifies several subtypes of Alzheimer's, and makes a convincing case that the amyloid plaques that are seen are a protective response, a byproduct, not the cause. I was disappointed that the article didn't refer to his work. For some odd reason, the New York Times is deeply conservative and "old school" when it comes to discussing health and medical topics.
