My elderly aunt refuses to stay in a nursing home even though she is physically incapable of taking care of herself but mentally capable.

She needs 24/7 round-the-clock care but her money is going to run out in about 3 months if she's at home. My mom has the POA but she heard that she can't legally make her sister stay in the nursing home if she is mentally stable. What can she do?

That is so tough! I hope Mom has started the application process for Medicaid. Perhaps when Aunt's money runs out she will be able to continue some of the in-home care under Elderly Waiver. But that program will not pay more than it costs for NH care.

Getting her finances in order may be best Mother can do right now.
