My Dad has Parkinsons, and they are building a house. I'm trying to find some basic disability construction specs... Bathroom, halls, etc...

We used pocket doors and indoor/outdoor carpet. Bathroom should have a walk-in shower and large enough to accommodate wheelchair if needed. Also lever handles for faucets and other doors. Make sure toilet is higher than standard.

Hi Mr. McMullen --

There are many resources available to help you with your home design:

http://www.homemods.org has a ton of resources.
Check their library.

Center for Universal Design: http://www.design.ncsu.edu/cud

National Kitchen and Bath Assoc http://www.nkba.org/

I would also recommend putting a call in to your local ADA Center (800/949-4232) and consulting with your state's assistive technology center (http://www.resnaprojects.org/nattap/at/statecontacts.html) about products and possible financial assistance.

Hope that helps!
