You will keep the original in a safe place and I keep a copy with me whenever I have to deal with mom's financial or healthcare problems. Usually you will be asked to show it only the first time you deal with each institution and they keep a record on file. And you may want to make sure his bank accepts it, sometimes they have their own forms to fill out.
The only people who would need a copy of the Power of Attorney would be your Dad and whomever he had appointed to be his POA. Hopefully Dad has a primary POA and secondary POA in case the first person is unable to fill his/her duty.
