I have read about bad reviews about joining Go Go Grandparents' membership. I have used only non-membership ride services for discounted rides and nothing else. Three miles cost me about $20 with local government discount for excellent Lyft service.
The drivers are good and the rides are pleasant. But the dispatchers are horrible with addresses. We took them twelve days in a row, always to the same place--the main entrance of UPMC Shadyside Hospital, 3250 Centre Avenue. Simple address, you'd think. But no. Drivers got sent to West Penn Hospital, a completely different place. To the Emergency Department on South Aiken Avenue. To the Shadyside Medical Building, near but not in the hospital. On and on and on, day after day after day, despite our giving them the right address every day. GPS can take you to a street address, that's all the information you need. But they would pester us with, "Is it the Emergency Department? Is it near the Busway?" No, the Busway entrance is on South Aiken Avenue. "Is it near the Shadyside Urgicare?" No, it's across the street from it. And so on. Just spectacular incompetence--like they really couldn't believe we wanted to go to the main entrance.
Be more than careful. I had a confirmed ride from Camden Tn to Nashville TN and no one showed up this morning. I got such a run-around from the company when I tried to find out what was going on. Apparently one has to live in a major city to get a straight answer- just guessing on that. I cancelled the membership and the confirmed ride back later today from Nashville. I was so very lucky that the hospital in Nashville agreed to change the appt to next week. I am 77 yrs old. Had surgery recently and alone. Extremely important this cancer patient get back to Nashville to set up next surgery. IF I HAVE TO HITCHHIKE TO NASHVILLE NEXT WEEK I WILL. Am totally serious. Then this company had the absolute nerve to tell me to call Uber. Sure- from 150 dollars with GoGo to nearly 500 with lyft or uber. BE VERY CAREFUL.
Be very careful of Gogograndparent. We were told the membership fee was $29.99 but never told it was per month. We assumed yearly. When we went to cancel the membership, we were told that, because of our circumstances (i.e. not living where we first joined and not needing the service where we live) that we would receive a refund. Instead of a refund, we were charged $29.99 for the following month. Another call to them produced a nasty 'supervisor' who kept saying 'We have a no refund policy'. We were told we had received received a notice that a charge was forthcoming but we received no such notice. We got nowhere with them. And to add to this, the original driver was given the wrong address (to a hotel instead of the airport) and by the time we got to the airport we missed our flight.
No -there is NO FINANCIAL ADVANTAGE . The website compells you to fully register before they will give you a ‘fee estimate’, then instantly charge your credit card—even when you attempt to reverse the charges after discovering that regular cabs and Uber are the identical quoted rates. Their representative offers you small unnecessary tidbits to extend your membership, but tells you that “you should have read the no-refund disclaimers “ when you registered , even for less than 15 minutes of no -use. It’s a fee-collecting money-grab—DON ‘T DO IT!!!
No. You are paying more money for the very same uber drivers who work under the same uber practices. If all you do is go to the airport and get dropped off, it will be great if paying a premium price is all you are looking for. If like most people an errands do make up most of life if Uber didn't make sense, then this will not either. It is a scam and uses deceptive advertising.
Please go to the AgingCare timeline top of the page and use the search bar to type in GoGoGrandparent. While I cannot remember what the complaints are, there were some and they involved hidden or extra charges. I would call Uber and Lyft. Do know that I know at least the latter has some programs that make better deals for elders if there is qualifications. I think I would stick with them if they are available in your area.
You might also expore your local NextDoor. Several folks on mine make themselves available though it is by the hour, they attend the appointments or shopping with the elder, and wait to take them home, and as paid by the hour (usually about 50/hr in SF, CA.) it isn't cheap.
Do call your Local Council or Agency on Aging to check if there are transporation choices as well. We have a local disabled and elderly transit choices which uses both cabs and accessible vans in our city.
I was looking for reviews for GoGoGrandparents. Ironically, the best source of information was from the drivers! Go to https://www.reddit.com/r/uberdrivers/comments/1cgsqvp/anyone_do_gogograndparent_rides/
Read it yourself. But pay attention to the fact that the drivers reports that tips made to a driver by the app NEVER get to the driver. GoGoGrandparents just keeps the money for themselves. To my mind, that's all you need to know. Don't trust this company.
Also the call centers are overseas and this leads to huge problems in communication. The call centers speak not so great English and there are huge cultural differences, all amplified by the fact that they are dealing with old people, often with compromised cognitive abilities.
Oh, drivers report from speaking to passengers that GoGoGrandparents can charge very steep fees to their passengers, but the driver don't see this money. Drivers report that GoGoGrandparents easily charges twice the normal rideshare fees and often a lot more than this.
I appreciate your writing about this experinence. Have brother work through his charge card to get this charge refunded because if they say they don't have any contract with him then why would he be paying them? Also, there are now two BIG NO's on this. That is gonna hurt their business. Let them know you are warning against them on every elder Forum out there and invite them to read your review. This is going to hurt them big time.
You can do your OWN uber of lyft and if you are on Lively for a smartphone it is a part of their phone service, no extra fees. You simply call your "O" for Operator and she will access where your phone is, Lyft picks you up, and there you are. No fees, no apps and no sign ups. I have to say I love my Lively Smartphone3. Great Camera, so easy to operate, and I don't know why I kept my flip phone so long. And the IN PERSON help is perfect. Always a person, always kind, always patient and will walk you through anything including initial setup. Go to Lively.com and look at their videos when you are ready to consider a "big girl" (as I call it) phone.
I am writing this review to express my deep dissatisfaction with GoGoGrandparent and to warn others about my experience, which I believe borders on elder abuse. My 89-year-old mother, who is going blind, needed assistance with shopping and other tasks. My brother discovered GoGoGrandparent and thought we had finally found a solution to help her. He set up an account, and my mother went out to buy water. To our shock, this simple errand ended up costing us $250! When I called GoGoGrandparent to address the issue, I was told that they had no record of an account in either my brother’s name or my mother’s name. This lack of accountability is unacceptable, especially for a service that claims to cater to seniors in need. I cannot stress enough how concerning it is that a business like this operates without proper oversight or customer support. It feels like they are taking advantage of vulnerable seniors during a time when they need help the most. I urge anyone considering this service to think twice and explore other options. This has been the worst experience, and I would not recommend GoGoGrandparent to anyone.

I called Go Go Grandparent when my drivers license was temporarily suspended. My patient advocate from EZ Health recommended it to me. Go Go Grandparent charged me a $16.99 membership fee. This is in addition to paying the regular Uber or Lyft fee once I found this out I told the representative I wanted to cancel the membership immediately less than a half an hour after they charged me. I was told I would receive a full refund since I never used the membership. I noticed today that my bank account was charged and I called Go Go Grandparent to follow up with them on the refund. I spoke with the supervisor who refused to refund my money and was very unhelpful so if you are a senior citizen like I am, don’t waste your money on them because you won’t get it back. I haven't heard about it but AARP in their latest issue says there are many services provided that we aren't aware of and that some cities and counties even have vouchers for Uber and Lyft. If you use this service I hope you will inform us all about it.
I just looked it up. For me, I think it goes out of Philly and hooks the person up with urbers and lyfts. I live in a small town that those services aren't prevalent. And, I could make those calls myself. We also have Senior bussing.
