My mom wants to talk to scammers on her messenger account. I deleted it and Facebook ask if you want to turn back on. I can’t win.

She ordered a credit card the other day too. When I ask her who she is talking to she will tell me nobody. I block and deleted messages but someone new comes back. I don’t want to take her phone but it stress me. She will argue that someone is going to give her $120,000 and a car. Lord I hate this disease

Look into a locked down senior phone. Go to her bank and explain the situation. Cancel her debit card access. Delete FB. Cancel her credit cards. If you don't have POA this is going to be harder or impossible.

Freeze her credit asap. Easy to do and will solve a lot of problems. But she probably needs to have her phone switched to something you control with a white list. Also, remove her internet access. You don’t give any details about her living situation which is important to know.

Are you PoA for your Mom? It will be easier to manage if you are.

My Mom has a RAZ mobility phone that looks like a smart phone but doesn't have any internet, just large pictures for pre-approved contacts that I manage from an app on my smart phone. She complains about it but there was no real alternative. My Mom doesn't drive anymore and has moderate dementia. If your Mom still drives and can figure out ways around your barriers, then you will have your hands full. Consider freezing her credit and talking to her bank about being a prime target for scamming and to ask for alerts of suspicious activity.

There are phones that don’t connect to the internet, I see people recommend the Raz phone. If you have active durable power of attorney you can also put a freeze on her credit which would prevent her from opening any new lines of credit.

Time to take the phone away. If you know her passwordfor facebook, delete the account and messenger too.
