Living places for people on SS?

My parents are in mid 80’s and living only on SS. They are also sick and needing assistance. I am trying to figure out what can be done to help them to find a place where they can live. Is there any State or Federal programs aimed to helping elderly citizens in this type of situation? They have no properties nor other type income. They entirely rely on SS.They live in Southern CA.

If you feel like their safety is at risk, you could call Adult Protective Services where they live and ask for an evaluation of your parents. Let them know that your parents live alone and have no one to take care of them.

Where are they living now? In a house? Apartment? Have they tried hiring outside help from an agency or privately?

Most importantly: do *they* see their need for a different solution? Are you helping them for now? If they don't think there's a problem, and you are not their PoA, then you will need to have a discussion with them about a sustainable solution and your participation (or not) in it.

Call your county Area on Aging as to what low income places exist. There will be a line even after they qualify, so best to get the process started as there’s tons of others wanting the same thing.
