Is there temporary care available? What is the cost for live in care?

Use the internet to access agencies in your area. Then ask for their hourly rates. You are looking at approximately 35-40 dollars an hour. Figure it out with the math. In home care is almost prohibitively expensive unless one is a multi millionaire if the care is 24/7.

Mine was $20/hour or $160 each night out of pocket just to sleep. All self pay, unfortunately.

Temporary care is available, and it’s usually called respite care or short-term personal care. It’s designed for situations where a family caregiver needs a break, has travel plans, or needs extra support during a transition.

You generally have two options:
1. In-home care (caregiver comes to the resident)
Cost usually depends on the number of hours needed and the level of assistance required. Live-in care is often the most cost-effective model because you’re paying a flat daily rate instead of hourly, but it still varies by agency.
2. Respite stays in a licensed personal care home
This can be a great option when someone needs 24/7 support in a more structured, supervised environment. Rates vary widely depending on the home’s size and level of service, but boutique homes that offer individualized care typically charge a flat daily or weekly rate.

Costs range based on location, level of care, and how personalized the setting is, but for example, my personal care home, First Family Home Care, located in Decatur Georgia charges $200 per day for respite stays. From other personal care home owners I’ve spoken to, the typical range is $175 to $300 per day.
