Is there an affordable source in IA for house cleaning for self pay clients?

My brother, age 68, had a brain injury when young and has had free help through organizations in IA for cleaning his apt and job coaches. Yes, he still works, has only been able to get part time jobs and needs help making decisions. He also lives independently for now.
With all the changes in funding for these services, they are now requiring that he go on Medicaid so that he can continue with these services. He does not qualify financially. Yes, if you just count his income, he qualifies. But, thanks to his diligence of work for his whole life and to our parents for leaving him some $$, his assets are too high for him to qualify for Medicaid.
We refuse to tie up his assets in Medicaid approved trusts/annuities, as we want to have choices for his care as he needs more and more of it in the next decade to come.
However, we are faced with private pay options that don't seem affordable, starting Jan 1st, 2026. $52 and hour, to keep the weekly cleaning lady that we've been working with, through Happier at Home. Please help me find a better alternative, for those of you have been there before me!
Thank you!Linda

Contact your local Area Agency on Aging, or call 2-1-1, or call your local Senior Center for resources and more information.

Maybe even call social services for your county and ask for an assessment for some in-home services.

If you go to Care.com, you are likely to find someone who will do this for less. The caregivers post their rates and you communicate with them directly through the website. NextDoor.com is another good source, although it limits who can post to residents of a local geographic area, so if you don't live near your brother you might not be able to access his area (not sure of specifics but you can check the site).

This is an international forum of caregivers to elderly loved ones Linda. Google housecleaners in your town/area of Iowa and make some calls for rates. $52 an hour is high.

Best of luck to you.
