You find several in your area and call them. Ask if they accept Medicaid. A good memory care facility may not. You may have to include skilled nursing facilities in your search. Call and schedule a tour. You will have a chance to talk with an admissions specialist, who will also have questions for your about your loved one's needs. They will tell you whether they can accommodate those needs and what the cost would be.
It can be hard to find one. You can look on the Medicare.gov website for a list of facilities in your state. It should list which ones take Medicaid or Medicare. I made a list and called around. The one we settled on does not take either, so mom private pays.
Medicare doesn't cover memory care at all and in a lot of states Medicaid doesn't cover them either. I know that here in NC where I live we do have some memory care facilities that do take Medicaid, so you'll just have to do your research in the state in which you live.
