Hello group! My mother is in a memory care facility for two years now at $7000 per month. Because she requires more care than the staff can give I have had to hire around the clock private caregivers to come in and sit with her. All told, this amounts to almost 20K per month. I am thinking of renting a ground floor apartment near my home for her to live in at a significant reduction in cost. The private caregivers (and Hospice) would be willing to continue their care in the apartment. Has anyone ever tried this? My mother is bed and wheelchair bound and is no longer able to participate in any activities at the memory care facility. She does not eat the food provided by the facility and I bring her most meals and snacks. I am able to do her laundry as well. I’d appreciate your thoughts on anything you think I haven’t considered. Definitely, you should rent a ground-floor place and move your mother in. Since you don't have live-in caregivers they don't need a bedroom. Rent a studio apartment for cheap and move your mother there. Her caregivers will be able to manage and you'll probably save about $6,000 a month or more.

It was helpful that once I enrolled Mom in hospice an RN came around once a week and the RN handled the med renewals.
If Mom had not owned her own home I would have considered renting an apartment and having around the clock caregivers. Another option is buying a 1 bedroom condo and having around the clock caregivers.
I visit the premier supposedly top of the line care facility in Florida. It is really common to see those in Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing with private duty CNA's from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm. Crazy.
I would hands down rent the apartment as long as you can staff it with caregivers.
