I want to care for my mom.

In my state they will pay a family member to care give, but there are requirements; like you can only make $2900 month outside of the caregiving. Know that even part-time, you will be busier than you think for those few hours and on weekends. Either way, it's worth a look.

Who is paying for the aides who come? If Mom, than she should be paying you. Who is POA? What kind of contract do you have with the aides who come in now.

If Mom has money for aides, then Medicaid won't help. Medicaid goes by income and assets.

It’s kind of you to want to provide care. While you research this, please remember to consider the lost wages that also contribute to Social Security for your financial future, having health insurance for yourself if it’s not covered by a spouse’s insurance, and the low income any caregiver pay program will provide. It’s important to do the best for yourself as you consider what’s best for mom. Often in caregiving there are only the decisions that impact everyone’s best interests the least. There is not much chance that you can be paid for 'covering -no-shows', including for weekends. You need to re-think the future, because it will get worse.

Is your mom on Medicaid (different than Medicare)? Many states (including PA from what I can see) have a program where Medicaid patients who qualify for caregiving can select their caregiver. However, from what I understand the pay and hours can be limited. I would check with your county’s Area Agency on Aging (usually part of the county’s Health and Human Services department).
