What kind of laptop for my 95-year-old mother?

Why does she need a laptop if all she's doing is playing games and reading news? If she's not emailing and texting, creating Word docs, cruising the internet, working with graphics, shopping then she does not need a laptop. My Mom is using my very old iPad playing Solitaire, and other games. FYI you can buy a keyboard attachment to an iPad. Costs less than a laptop.

My 95 y/o mother had an iPad. Used it for games and she liked to stream Netflix. I also liked that it could instant message her. She had profound hearing loss and I did this when I was visiting to convey important information and wanted to be sure she understood me.

An iPad is easy to navigate and if necessary a keyboard can be used. The iPad worked well for us. Just make sure you buy a really good case for it. We had to replace my mother's twice when she dropped it

I just ordered a Chromebook for my 90-year old mother. I’ve been delaying for obvious reasons. She didn’t think she’d ever need a new computer either. She also does not need lots of memory just needs to check email, FB and wants a bridge game. She can’t learn new things either so she’ll have a mouse with a cord but she can use the laptop screen and laptop keyboard. She is a disaster with touch screens so an iPad makes no sense for her and she would probably drop it. A laptop set up on her dining table works just fine.

I don’t think that you should invest in a Mac for someone with light use and a short lifespan. You can get a laptop for under $400. I spent about $200.

If she really needs 3 USB ports 1 would work with a splitter. Most computers don’t need USB for a mouse, keyboard or monitor.

iPads seem to work very well for older folks - light, intuitive, crisp bright screens. My mom could still use one for solitaire and Facebook when she could not even run her TV remote any longer.

If you can afford it a Macbook Pro 16" M1, M2 or M3 with the most memory you can afford since memory is not upgradeable. 512 GB or better yet 1TB

If she is not saving files, you can go with a lower cost one. Memory is what drives up the price
