How do you move your loved one into another facility?

How do you move your loved one into another facility? My dad has to move because of behaviors. I currently have someone helping me find a facility for him to go into. It will cost more too.

Have you talked in-depth with his doctor(s) about medication to get his behavior under control? Because otherwise you may have the same problem in the next facility. Or is it a matter of moving from assisted living to memory care because of greater needs?

Marcia, ask the new facility if they can arrange the transfer transport.

My experience is that, unless it's a board and care home, the facility has transportation available.

Are you asking how you PHYSICALLY move him? Much of that would depend on his abilities to go by cab van or other method. You may in end need ambulance transfer. I am uncertain I am answering your question. Will check back if you have more specidic question.

Some behavior "problems" can be managed by medications. Has this been suggested or tried?
Some inappropriate behavior is a result of anxiety, frustration, pain these can be helped by medication.
If it is a problem with violence that also can be managed but many facilities will want 60 to 90 days without a violent episode.

I would discuss behavior problems with the doctor and see what can be done. That may resolve the problem without a move.
But be aware that any medication may make him more of a fall risk.

As to how to make the move.
You coordinate the move with each facility. Sometimes a medical transport is needed.
Do expect a decline with the move.

Are the problematic behaviors under control? I would work on that first, usually requiring meds from his doctor.
