Will home care companies care for an alcoholic? A nonviolent SLP.

Discuss with home care companies to ask this question.

Not sure what SLP is but we had private duty caregivers in the home to "officially" care for Mom but my Dad was in the home and a hard core alcoholic.

We had to pay well to keep people. Mostly Dad just sat and read his book and drank.

As you know, alcoholics are going to drink.

Usually before an aid is sent, the agency does an interview and a contract is signed. This information needs to be honestly and fully presented before hiring because at the end of the day, it's the individual aids who will need to deal with such a client and may be put at risk or asked to do enabling things for this person. Does this person agree to in-home care? You won't be able to force it on them, they can refuse to allow people into their residence. Aids needs to know how to not enable his drinking. Who is supplying the booze to this person? Does this person still drive? I wouldn't want to be in a home all day long with an alcoholic, for any amount of money. More info would be helpful.
