The trajectory is "usually" downward. However, different types of dementia manifest differently. For instance, Alzheimer's goes down in a sort of curve, some others by stairsteps of stability at each step down. Whereas Lewy's can be up and down and all over the place and is GREATLY affected by anxiety. Esp. in early stages.
The important thing is to know there is no "expected" and no "norm" and that you can expect the unexpected. How nice to be surprised in a good way.
You can find lots of information online about the progression of different dementias, and I saw one wonderful article with graft of it. But of course have since lost the link.
"After 4 years of multi-domain lifestyle interventions including nutrition, socialization, and physical exercises, the patient's cognitive function, especially memory function, improved significantly." That's a sentence from one* of many articles in medical journals so, yes, apparently so.
It will be interesting to see to what his medical teams attributes the change.
Congratulations, that's pretty awesome!
