Is 800 calories enough for a 98 year old 100 lb woman who is not mobile?

This is a medical discussion to be had with the doctor.

What is known is that we need less food and more sleep as we age.

Elderly can live a long, long time on very little food.
My partner eats minimal amounts due to severe GERD. Skinny as a rail at 84. Yet his doctors praise his strength, agility, walking, balance, BP, and his arteries that have no plague. So go figure. I used to worry. Now I understand that both HE and I are past our sell-by date, so we must be doing SOMETHING right.

If you worry about this make an ensure chocolate or coffee milkshake, whatever dad likes. You will boost up the nutrition and calories a bit. But I do recommend a chat with the MD who I think will set your mind at ease.

And for yourself it's time to examine your own thinking, because no matter what you do, you can't change the march of time. The years accumulate. We have no answer to A-G-E.

Life can be sustained on very few calories. If she’s refusing food, it’s her body’s natural process of winding down and shouldn’t be fought against. It’s hard to watch but also very normal
