Teriteri2008 Asked September 2024

My parents passed away and had no will and my dad owed back taxes. I have been paying on them for 4 years and they just keep on adding up.

Wondering if there is any place in Augusta Ga that will give me some type of assiy

The bills of the estate are paid prior to the beneficiaries. This would include back taxes. If the entire estate is used to pay outstanding debts, then there will be no inheritance. You should not pay any of the debts out of your own pocket.

Parents must have had no assets. Reason why taxes weren't paid, no money to pay them.

Teriteri2008, so sorry for your lost. What type of back taxes? Is this the IRS income taxes? Real estate property tax? Personal property tax? School tax?

Back taxes to who? Property taxes to the County or taxes to IRA.

Are you living in parents house and paying back property taxes? If you can't afford taxes then you may have to sell the house, and pay the tax liens. Then u use the proceeds left to set u upbin an apt.

You and any others standing to inherit through probate must pay the county its money, or the county will take the property.
