I agree that same county as your Mom might be good, just in case you end up going to court, then thats the local court for the attorney , and a close distance for your Mom to get to.
For distance from you, that may not matter. The attorney I use, I have never met in person so far. We have done video appointments, and then email or fax documents back and forth.
I would use an Elder Care Attorney in the COUNTY where mom lives. If you can easily get there to visit or deal with things. Otherwise if and only if mom will never have to appear in court you can use an attorney where you live just know that IF the attorney has to travel to where mom is for any reason it will cost you and arm and a leg.
The same state it should not matter, but if you are handling your mother's affairs as her POA I would use an attorney in her area if possible. It much depends on how often you can visit her/will be there. I used the attorney of my brother in Palm Springs, but used a branch of the US Bank in my own San Francisco to manage his accounts from, leaving him a personal account of his own in his own branch of the bank.
