Id like to respond to a poster but the reply option is not there. Any idea why?

You must have been in the discussion section.

On Discussion threads, there's no reply button to a person. Only on Questions does that feature exist. You can always post your reply as a new comment, though, and address it to the person you are speaking to. 😊
