Is there an agency that provides free in-home care or pay for a family caregiver?

Call Council on Aging. They will do an assessment of her needs. If she has qualifies, you will receive a limited amount of hours of caregiving assistance. They will sit with her for you to run errands. Light housekeeping, prepare meals and help bathe her.

Best wishes to you and your family.

The "free in home care" agency is usually called family, and no they seldom get paid, unless their loved one they're caring for has the funds to do so, and then strict guidelines/contract must be followed along with strict records(including tax ones for the one being paid)in case Medicaid is needed in the future.
And Medicaid will often pay a very small amount for an in home caregiver, but it's not much, just a few hours a week.
If your loved one was a veteran or married to one, they may qualify for aid and assistance, which of course varies from person to person as well. You can check with your local VA.

Bertah83, welcome to the forum. Please note that the vast majority of family caregivers do not get paid..... unless the person they were caring for can pay them from their own savings.

There is Medicaid [which is different from Medicare] where if the love on is on Medicaid, the State may offer some type of payment for care. Unfortunately, the pay is usually minimum wage for a few hours each week, again in varies from State to State. Medicaid is funded by us taxpayers.

Medicaid, depending on your State's Medicaid program, may have Aides that can come in to help out your love one. The amount of time given varies State by State. It worth looking into if your love one can qualify for Medicaid.
