How does one find a good memory care facility? Medicaid only option.

Have him at home 11 years. He is healthy otherwise

Your husband may qualify for Hospice. If so the Hospice Social Worker might have some ideas.
But in the mean time you would have help from a Nurse that would come 1 time a week. A CNA that would come 2 times a week. the CNA would help with a Bath as well as change the bedding and order supplies. You would get all the supplies and equipment that you will need to help care for him.
And ...if your husband is a Veteran contact your local Veterans Assistance Commission and see if he qualifies for any help through the VA.

Google care advisors, I used an independent for the first time when my mother was in another state to place my mom in an AL. When I moved my mother here to my state I found a franchise called Care Patrol. They also help me place my in-laws. This people know what’s available, cost, who accepts Medicaid, availability, your needs, reputation. I can’t say enough about how valuable they were to me. I like Suggesting an independent because these people will meet with you and guide you. My in-laws when they were placed, The Medicaid application was being started. When my mother moved into a memory care in my state, she had a little less than a year of self pay. Memory care took her in knowing this. I think the business relationship between Cara patrol and the memory care was why..

You can get the most current and honest recommendations for facilities local to you by joining the Nextdoor.com forum and asking actual neighbors in your communities. It is not anonymous and people are happy to help.

Medicaid does not pay for Memory Care, its private pay. Medicaid in some states will pay if the person has private paid for at least 2 years. Otherwise Medicaid only pays for Longterm care.

You need to see a social worker. Have your Dr. refer a social worker, she can help you find options available to you.
