I have been turned down three times for assisted living because of food allergies and food intolerance. No money left after paying monthly. What are my options?

What do you mean by "no money after paying monthly".

Assisted living is usually private pay unless your State has wavers for them. The cost is at least 5k a month and probably more. What your looking for is probably lots more. My Moms AL was 39 units with one cook. Don't think that one cook was capable of making 39 different meals.

From your profile Moms been gone 10yrs. Are you still living with your sister. How old are you now? If you have no money, your only option would be Longterm care with Medicaid paying for your care. And I am not sure if they could cater to ur allergies. Maybe you can find a private care home where they take only a few residents.

Your options are to live elsewhere and prepare your own meals or find an Assisted Living Facility that can accommodate your special dietary requirements. ALs are not required to serve you special meals, unless they are specifically set up to do so. Morningstar AL is one such AL who is willing to accommodate special diets residents have, including pureed diets, but most will not.

What does "no money left after paying monthly mean"? Squeezing an entire question into a title only leaves too many questions to give a lucid response to.

Have you updated your profile since you were on the site in 2009? That was about issues with your mother and sister, but I’m sure its changed. If you are paying monthly for AL, why are they turning you down because of food? It’s all a bit confusing.

This sounds really challenging.

Your profile says you are living at your sister's? So I guess that was temporary and/or not working out?

What kind of allergies do you have? And intolerances? The food these places serve has much to be desired. Can you get negotiate a slightly better deal on the rent and handle your own food?

Can you go into an independent apartment with an aide to do your meal prep and whatever assistance you are in need of?

Just curious as to how old you are and what type of care you need?

Good luck.

It seems so unfair that you are turned away for having food allergies and intolerance.

Keep searching for one that will suit your needs.

The monthly costs are expensive. I would try to negotiate the fee.

Or ask what is the lowest priced unit. You may be fine with an efficiency unit instead of a one bedroom.

Look for one that you can select only services that you require instead of everything included.

lmw124, so sorry you are having difficultly finding an Assisted Living that would help you with your food allergies.

Keep looking. My Dad was highly allergic to paprika, and his Assisted Living made sure none was placed on his meals. He was also lactose-intolerant, and they made sure such type of milk was made available for him.

You also mentioned "no money left after paying monthly", not sure what you mean by that.

Allergies are not uncommon. Neither is lactose intolerance. I am glad that your dad found a place that accommodated his needs.

Many people are on gluten free diets or they could be diabetic. Some people can’t have too much sodium due to high blood pressure.
