My husband had a stroke. He is wheelchair bound. I had to quit my job to care for him. Do I qualify for any medical or financial support?

I’m 58 years old. My income is $385.00 a month. My husband gets social security disability $2,697.00. I’m on the Obama Care right now. I had a colonoscopy and the charged me 2500.00 because I had Polyps. I’m still paying from a year ago. I’m paying $45.00 a month. I have to have one every two years. Colon cancer runs on my family. I’m going to owe forever. What’s the requirement to apply for Medicaid and food stamps? I live in South Carolina.
Thank you!

Check with local Area Agency on Aging. There may be programs you might qualify for.
Check with your local Senior Center they may be aware of programs as well.
If your husband is a Veteran the VA may have programs that will pay you or provide caregivers.

If Medicaid is available it will only be for a limited number of hours per week and at a very low hourly rate.

You may qualify for Medicaid depending on the State you live in. You should have free medical care if you have no income. Also you may qualify for food stamps. You need to go to social services to see what you qualify for. What state are you in and how old are you? Medicaid is available in some states. If all you have is your husband's SSDI income for both of you to live on you should qualify for Medicaid. Some states are more generous than others.
