Is anyone's loved one taking trazedone for dementia?

My moms doctor prescribed trazedone for her agitation that happens in the afternoon. I'm wondering if anybody else has had experience with this drug? It seemed to help at first but lately it doesn't seem to be making a difference. Does anyone have any advice on what medicine might work?

Talk to her doc about increasing the dosage. My mom started on 12.5 mg (half a tablet) of seroquel a day at about 4pm and over the course of four years the dosage gradually increased to 75 mg a day.

I took it for years as a mild antidepressant and sleeping assist, and more recently for elevated blood pressure.

If you and she have a good relationship with her prescribing physician you might want to ask if she could try the smallest dose to start.

If I remember correctly the smallest dose came as a tablet that could also be split which might (or might not) be helpful too, so that you could see if it was having the desired effect without too much drowsiness or sluggishness.

I had no problems starting it or stopping it. Is she going to be taking it late in the day? I think I took it before bed.

HTH!

Shes currently taking 1/2 of the smallest dose and it seemed to work for a while(shes been on it for a couple of months) but lately she's getting more agitated in the afternoon. She takes her dose at 2:30 pm

Seroquel helped my Mom with her agitation. Check with Dr. and see if she could take that..
