I need to move into an assisted living situation, but cleaning out my house and garage is a major task I am not up to. Any suggestions?

Are there any services I might contact who could help me clean out my house and pack me up for a move to an assisted living facility?

There are companies that will help organize and pack things for you.
If there are items you wish to get rid of you can call almost any resale place like the Salvation Army, Purple Hearts and they will come and pick up items.
There is also the option to have an "Estate Sale" company come in and place a value on items and they will hold a sale. They do take a % of the sale.
I am going to PM you, please look for my message.

NAPO. National Association of Professional Organizers can help you locate a local service to help you downsize and move.

If you have chosen your ALF they may have ideas for you, as well. They might know trusted contacts. Worth a try. Otherwise anything like 1-800-junk sort of thing might work; they clear and sell what they can, dispose of the rest. There is a charge.

Search "senior downsizing" or organizing services. This is a whole new industry meant to help people just like yourself. They can not only help you make decisions on keeping or releasing items, but can also help you with selling and donating things.

Estate sale, they do the hard work.

Ask yourself if I had a fire is there anything here that would never be able to be replaced?

I had a fire once, yes there are a few items I wish I had, but it wasn't meant to be.

Contact people who run estate sales in your area. They will often offer a service that will include the sale of items and then donate/trash the remainder. My friends used a service like that when they were moving. The company told them to remove everything they wanted. You can hire a mover for that who will pack and move the items to your assisted living apartment. Then the Estate Sale person said "Pretend you just died and walk away. You can even leave the food in the refrigerator and the trash in the trash cans. We'll take care of it all." They did just that. The cost of the service was more than covered by what they made from the estate sale.

Maybe the assisted living facility has some suggestions? My mom’s place gave me the name of woman who specialized in helping downsize and move elderly residents. She was a tremendous help!

Many blessings and good luck to you!
