Advice on finding help?

Grandma1954 Nov 2021
The easiest way to find help is to contact an agency and they will do an assessment to determine what type of help you need. It could be anything from a "companion" or a caregiver that will help with toileting, showers, and other light duties. But they will not give medications although they can prompt and remind. If you need someone to give medications then they will require a nurse. Going through an agency can range in expense so call around.
You can also contact your local Agency on Aging and find out if your mom is eligible for any services.
If mom is a Veteran you can check with the local Veterans Assistance Commission and find out if she qualifies for any benefits. (If mom was married to a Veteran and the Veteran is still alive and she may qualify) And if mom was a Veteran there is the possibility that you can get paid to care for her.
Depending on the help needed there are also Volunteer groups. Check with your local Senior Center and find out if they are aware of any.
Check to see if there are any Adult Day Care service in your area.
