- always create a written contract so that "others" (like family and siblings) can't question why she was paying you and how much
- in some states there is no such thing as a contract caregiver, they are all considered employees and must be treated as such (i.e. your mom would need to pay you by check and be diligent about withholding taxes and quarterly reporting and give you a W2 at the end of the year)
- it is a very low-wage type of job with no benefits and you usually wind up working more hours than is reasonable.
