Can you get a legal separation if your spouse has Alzheimer's?

JoAnn29 May 2021
Yes see a lawyer and one versed in Medicaid.

Medicaid allows for Community spouse if you need to place him in Longterm care. Assets are split with his split being spent down and then applying for Medicaid. Usually the Community spouse is retired so they are given enough to live on from the monthly income. But you work. So not sure how that will work.

It will come down to Pros and Cons.

Yes. See a lawyer for this. It does help financially.

I am sure many do to help financially with care.
(It would not have worked in my case, and I did think about it, but I had far more in savings and retirement than my Husband did and I would have lost at least 1/2)
This is a discussion to have with an Elder Care Attorney.
