How do you change a social security representative payee?

I’m working with a couple...the husband is the wife’s SS rent payee but he is gambling the money...how can the wife change her rent payer to her son?

SS staff is working from home. You can call. It takes many tries to get through, but persist and you will get a rep on the phone. They’ll let you know how SS handles these types of things.

Social Security Rep-Payee, "Representative Payee".

I don't know what you mean by RENT payee. There is a Social Security Payee specification which has to go through the SS hoops to be designated; this person has to go to SS and take letters of incompetency, should be a POA or family member, and must make yearly meticulous reports back to SS.
So I am assuming that you are working with a couple. That couple is paying rent to someone for his unit, space, home, room or whatever. And the person they are paying rent to is gambling with his rent money. That isn't really the business of anyone but the person involved. They have a unit or room or whatever they are renting out.
I cannot imagine what any of this has to do with Social Security at all. It is quite difficult to become the payee for SS. Could you elaborate here? Is there simply an account on which this person has been added and that account just happens to be the account into which SS is paid? Who currently is this payee; that is to say what relationship to the couple? Is this person the POA for this couple? Is this couple suffering from dementia or anything else that would make them incompetent?

If the woman is able to go to a local SS office, she can change her “designated payee” there. One of the counselors will help her through the steps.
