My family member died earlier this month. As I looked through paper work, I found a soc sec for INS check from last month. What do I do?

I thought everyone has to now have checks direct deposited? If the check is dated last month its for the month before so you don't need to return it. If he has a bank account, then deposit it there. It now becomes part of their estate.

The Funeral Director should have notified SS that the family member died. If that person died in January and received a check in January, it can be kept. That check covers December. But they should not receive a February check because that is for January and the person died in January,
