I work full time and am trying to care for my father at home. No assets, needs 24/7 care, and only SS. Needs assisted living. Suggestions?

I have been trying for months to find something he can afford. Having no luck, we live in Michigan. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you applied for LTC Medicaid for him? It sounds like you may need to place him in a SNF that takes LTC Medicaid. Ask your father's neurologist or PCP to refer a social worker. The SW should be able to help you find a facility that will take him under Medicaid. You need to tell the SW that you aren't able to provide the care he needs at this point as you have to work. The other way to go about it if you can't place him in a facility on your own is through the local hospital. The hospital SW's and case managers are very adept at finding facilities for people. I likely was in a similar position as you are and ultimately I was able to get my father placed through the local hospital. First though, you need to start applying him for LTC state Medicaid if you haven't done so. You likely can start the application online.

Have you applied for Medicaid? Michigan actually has some of the best state funded options for low income seniors.
