Leukoaraiosis. Can anyone relate?

Since I have leukoaraiosis which eats away white matter instead of Alzheimer's which makes plaque, I wonder if there's anyone out there with leukoaraiosis who I can talk to.

How long have you known you have it? What are your symptoms?

Anything you’d like to talk about.

Hello I looked  leukoaraiosis up and from my understanding it has something to do with the small vessel of the brain. Think it is also the same as white matter disease.

It appears to be a type of dementia.

Sorry, I wished I could offer some advice but I am not familiar with this.

Maybe, there will be someone here with knowledge of it that may can talk with you.

Hope you get some answers.

Blessings to you.

There is nothing listed under Leukoaraiosis at the Mayoclinic.com website. Are you sure you have spelled it correctly?

This is the only thing I could find under "white matter disease"...it's still under clinical study, so maybe too soon to come to any conclusions about it?

Did you received a diagnosis from a doctor? If so then don't you think this is who you should be directing your questions to?

Yes actually my pcp said it’s something that happens with age and the neurologist that ordered the mri has never contacted me.

but im finding information online now.

it’s progressive with nothing to be done except lowering blood pressure and cholesterol and may cause strokes. So ive hinted to my daughter and granddaughter to start information preparation. Havent told my husband yet since he’ll just get mad and give me a hard time.

thank you everybody who has responded and the future answerers.

Hi Bettysue, I hadn't heard of the term leukoaraiosis but I had heard of white matter disease, which is a whole lot easier to spell! From my reading the condition is very closely linked to strokes and TIAs so it may progress to vascular dementia, you may find some support in that community.
