If you take an elderly parent out of a nursing home because of covid-19, can you later put them back in a nursing home?

JoAnn29 Nov 2020
The question here is if they are private pay. If private paying, then you probably will be able to find another facility to take them. If parent is on Medicaid, not so easy to get them back into a NH. Medicaid will not hold a bed. Then its finding a facility that has a Medicaid bed open. And if you find it, will Medicaid allow you to pick up where you left off or will you need to apply again.

I would speak to the administration at the home. They should be able to answer your question.

You can hold their room by continuing to pay while they're out, but if you stop paying and therefore remove their possessions, then they've effectively changed their residence. As Alva stated it's up to the facility if there's room for them to come back, or if there's a waiting list.

This would be dependent I think on whether they have a room available. I would check with the specific facility.
