FIL just started using a permanent catheter, and he's having problems keeping the bag from sliding down his leg. Any recommendations?

I also got my mom something called Foley catheter stabilization device which helps to secure the tubing which connects to the catheter bag.

My mom had same problem. I found a great product on Amazon called Ugo Leg Sleeve. It is made of a soft stretchable cotton material that is placed on the leg. The catheter bag is placed inside the sleeve. It makes it more comfortable for the user to wear as the plastic catheter bag is no longer against the skin. Then, you can get a strap to secure the bag at top rather than use those rubber plastic straps that come with catheter bag that are uncomfortable. Check out you tube videos for Ugo products. There are several that come in a box so you can wash one and use another. My mom is happy with hers. Hope it helps your FIL! Good luck.

We've used this fastener for a year and all the slippage problems are GONE! It takes a bit of patience to unpeel the adhesive as it is light as air and sticks instantly, but once you learn that, it's wonderful. The strip is an "H" shape. The cross bar wraps completely around the catheter tube; the side steps attach to the leg.

yes. My Dad wears one and they have a badge type things called a Stay Lock to help keep the Cathiter Bag in place. Just tell the person changing the Cathiter that you would like a Stay Lock put on, or go to a Medical Supply place and buy a few or go On Line.
In the meantime, you coukd use medical tape all the way around the leg to help hold it in place

There are stretchy elastic sleeves you can get to use instead of straps. The leg bag goes in and there are holes at top and bottom for the tube and for the emptying port. My husband prefers wearing his on his calf so it is easy to empty. I bought them on amazon. There is also a seller called Medical Monks that has urology supplies.

I have been told, but have not seen for myself, that youtube has some good inservices on catheter care for males and for females. You might try them. Good luck. Was always a problem for nurses as well, and even with leg bands, a lot of slippage; moreover you worry about clots with tightened bands. Sure do wish you good luck and hope you will post links if you find good stuff out there on your searches of the internet.

My husband had a supra pubic catheter for 2 years. We tried several different holders from Medline, but the one that worked the best for him was just a simple velcro one, that just stuck to his leg and wrapped around the tubing. I'm sorry I don't have any name or numbers I can give you to help you find this on Medline, as my husband recently passed away and I didn't keep any of that info. Good luck.
