My aunt (84 and single) lives in an apartment building in Brooklyn NY. She fell and fractured her hipbone. Suggestions?

We expect her to recover enough to then transfer her to a rehab facility, from which she would have a treatment plan.
Which hospitals or rehab centers are the best for people with these kind of dangerous symptoms? All of her friends are considered frail elderly.

Thanks.. living so far away makes it difficult to know what her needs are and how the treatment plan sets priorities.

Just so you all know, Eastern Parkway is 4.2 miles long. It really matters where on EP she lives. And travel times in Brooklyn are always made longer by traffic and construction.

At least 45 minutes. It depends where on Eastern Parkway. Give me a cross street and I can look it up.

I am on a tablet. At the bottom of my page there is an area that says "AgingCare". It lists facilities. Where I live NHs and rehabs are in the same building so I would click on Nursing Homes and key in the info needed.

Do you have medical POA? Is she able to tell staff that you are her go to person? That its OK to discuss her medical problems with you? If no to these questions, then the HIPPA laws will prevent staff from talking to you.

When Aunt is ready for discharge they will recommend rehab facilities that have open beds. You can research these rehabs via the internet to see what their ratings are. Or ask the Staff member where would she put her LO. Once in rehab, Medicare will pay 100% for first 20 days. 21 to 100 days 50%. There will be a cost to the Aunt unless she has a good supplimental. Breaking a hip is very serious for the elderly. Your Aunt may need help once back to her own apt.

I Googled "How long does it take to travel by taxi from Brooklyn Eastern Parkway to Maimonedes Hospital" and it came up 23 min by car.
