Do you prefer to go to a younger doctor that has recent training or a an older doctor who has more experience?

I have found in my experience for myself that I prefer a younger doctor.

The doctor that I switched to after my old doctor retired seems to be better suited for me.

She is up to date on the latest treatments and listens to my concerns more than my older doctor who told me that he did not like the way he was forced to document everything on a computer and so forth. He even stated that was his reason for retirement.

I found the same to be true when I took my mom to the doctor for her appointments. Her older doctor was not nearly as thorough as the younger doctor that she saw after he retired.

Younger doctors do not have any issues with documentation of records and are tech savvy. The older ones were very uncomfortable with the newer methods of practicing medicine.

THIS IS WHERE 2ND OPINIONS COME IN: ONE YOUNGER AND PERHAPS ONE MORE TRAINED IN THE OLDER WAYS... YOU GET TO CHOOSE WHICH IS BEST FOR YOUR SITUATION.
My friend just went in for heart surgery. Mtiral valve was going to be replaced, but they patched, it. upon seeing him and listening, they found a hole in his heart, so they patched that too. Amazing what medical science can do. How in the world did he live over 48 years with a holey heart? Who found it? new or old doctor? Modern technology?
hope he heals quickly

Elaine,

My old doctor was my age. I went to school with his wife. My kids went to school with his kids.

My younger one looks to be in her 30’s. I am turning 65 in October and she is young enough to be my daughter.

At first it felt different but she is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. I like her a lot!

I could tell that my doctor that was retiring had enough. It was time for him to leave his practice. His heart wasn’t in it anymore.

Most of the doctors that were young, 30ish, when I started going to them, are now my age, 58!! I don’t know if you consider it young or old, lol. I was just lucky enough to find an obgyn and primary care doctor are both around my age. We all were 30ish when I started going to them in the early 1990’s. We all AGED together, lol.
