How can I get paid for the home care service I have been providing?

Njackson, there are important facts to understand and rules to follow regarding being private paid as a caregiver, both for you and your client. You and he need to have a written contact. This makes him an employer and employment taxes need to be paid. This is also because if your client is lower income/asset he will most likely need to qualify for Medicaid at some point if he needs LTC, MC or hospice and if he's paying you in cash this will be interpreted as "gifting" by Medicaid and may delay or prevent him from getting the aid he needs at a critical time. FYI the Medicaid "look back" period can differ from state to state but can be as far back a 5 years from application. He will need to check the laws in his state.
