How can I get extra help or nurse for my mom (83) with Alzheimer's?

I am taking care of my mom who is 83 years old. She has dementia and Alzheimer's. Diabetic, high blood pressure and these days she can't even stand up. I need some one to help me with picking her up and bathing.

I can't do it anymore, I got neck and back problems and arthritis.

Your local Area Agency on Aging can give you some help. Also, your state Dept of Aging and the Alzheimer's Assn ( 1-800-272-3900 24/7) can offer help. Call them all.

You will need to know what your mom's financial resources are and what she can afford to pay in the long term. She may qualify for some county services for free, but it won't be for everything she needs or full-time. Eventually she'll need to be tended to 24/7. If you already know you can't do this, then you will need to start educating yourself about facilities, costs, Medicaid, etc. If your mom has ample financial assets like a home, car, properties investments, I strongly recommend a consult with an elder law attorney who specializes in estate planning and has Medicaid knowledge. I wish you all the best as you figure out what works for her and you!

Hi Rita
do a search for Area Agency Of Aging with your county and state included in the search. This should help you find your local senior services office. Contact them and ask for a visit to assess your mom’s needs as well as your own. They can let you know what is available in the way of help.
I know what you are doing is very hard. I hope you get help soon.
