My mom loses days. Is this normal for dementia/ Alzheimer's?

My mom has good days and bad days... she’ll have four or five days where she is really with it, then she’ll have a three or four bad days, and when she has her next good day (or days) her frame of reference is the last good day...she thinks it was yesterday even though it was actually three or four days prior. I hope I’m explaining this clearly. Has anyone experienced this? Is this normal with this disease?

My step mother is basically the same, it does get a bit confusing for me and my brother too, some times we question ourselves, round n round we go. This is quite common when one is in the throws of dementia.

Dementia is such a strange disease. My MIL had mostly severe short-term memory issues, but she could look out the window and not be able to tell you what season we were in (winter in MN, pretty obvious) then she'd remember that we had gone away on vacation a few weeks ago. No rhyme or reason. My own mom (90) is starting to behave similarly to what you posted.
