How do I go about getting paid to take care of my stepdad?

mmurphy, the vast majority of grown children who are caregivers do not get paid..... not unless the parent can pay you from their own savings. If your Stepdad can do that, then you would need to create an employment contract stating what are your duties, the hours worked, the hourly rate, and who will be paying the payroll taxes. There are companies that will do the payroll.

Otherwise, you can call your State Medicaid office [different from Medicare] to see who programs the State offers. And to see if your Stepdad can apply and be accepted. The State may have a program where you can get paid. But don't be surprised if the pay is minimum wage for a few hours per week. Medicaid is taxpayer funded.

I see from your profile that your Stepdad had a stroke. Has he already been to a live-in Rehab center? Is Medicare sending out physical therapists to help him get back to normal?
