I need to get a chair lift. Any suggestions?

I have trouble going downstairs and I have to walk backwards that’s the only way that I can do. I have Medicare and Medicaid and I really need a chair Lift and I don’t know how to get one or where I can get the Doctor application? I have Osteoporosis.

Generally, stairlifts are not covered by insurance or government programs. There maybe exceptions. You pay the cost yourself. You don’t need anything from the doctor. I had one installed about 3 years ago. The total cost was about $9000.00. I got a $3000.00 grant from my deceased husband’s former employer. My stairway had one landing with one turn. Landings and turns influence price. A friend had a straight stairway and his was about $5500.00.

This seems to be the contact number for your county's service for older people: 315-435-2362

Give them a call, and they should be able to advise you on how you can get a stairlift installed. They may also suggest other ways to help keep yourself secure and comfortable at home. Good for you for taking the initiative! I hope you find useful help very soon.

Some people on the forum recommend Acorn stairlifts. I don’t know about coverage from insurance. Maybe others will know. Can you check with your policy to see if it is covered?

Best wishes for you.
